He was the perfect Nazi enemy: a gay, communist Jew. Working class family, a daring, bold guy. He trained young Jews for life in Palestine until the Nazis stopped Jewish emigration. Going underground, he built up secret pathways through the Alps. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\r\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"margin: 0px; font-family: 'Sitka Banner';\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Gad\u2019s greatest love\u00a0was Manfred. But one day, Manfred and his family were carried off to the old Jewish senior citizen home in Grosse Hamburger Strasse, which\u00a0was abused as\u00a0an inner-city deportation camps for those to be deported \u201cto the East\u201d. Gad, a force laborer in a carpentery, was lucky to have a nice boss. When he told him about his worries, the boss said, \u201cLook here. This is my son\u2019s Hitler Youth HJ uniform. Take it and do your thing.\u201d <\/span><\/span><\/p>\r\n<h6><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"margin: 0px; font-family: 'Sitka Banner';\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Gad looked ridiculous \u2013 <\/span><\/span><\/h6>\r\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"margin: 0px; font-family: 'Sitka Banner';\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">way too old, way too tall to be HJ, but \u2013 any uniform made the job in good old Prussia, and HJ style was enough to fool a good Nazi. He went to the big building in Grosse Hamburger Strasse and started talking into the SS guard. \u201cYou\u2019ve got that Jew in there, Manfred. I need him. He\u2019s got the keys to my father\u2019s workshop. We can\u2019t work \u2018cause we can\u2019t get in. Now I need that Jew to come along and give us the key. I\u2019ll just have him for a couple minutes.\u201d <\/span><\/span><\/p>\r\n<h6><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"margin: 0px; font-family: 'Sitka Banner';\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Uniform did the trick<br \/><\/span><\/span><\/h6>\r\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"margin: 0px; font-family: 'Sitka Banner';\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Manfred was searched out and delivered to Gad. Walking away, they heard the SS guard shouting: \u201cBut you make sure to bring me the Jew back!\u201d Gad, turning around, answered coolly, \u201cWhat am I supposed to do with a Jew?\u201d Around the corner, he pressed on Manfred, \u201cQuick, let\u2019s go, hurry on, I\u2019ve got clothes for you, you\u2019ll disappear from here, come on!\u201d Manfred answered, \u201cNo. I won\u2019t. If I leave now and leave my parents behind, I will never be free.\u201d Manfred went back. He and his family were murdered in Auschwitz.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\r\n<h6><strong>National Socialist and Jewish history<\/strong><\/h6>\r\n<p>is a main focus in my profession as Berlin Guide.
